Astoria’s Columbia Memorial Hospital Pushes Forward on $300 Million Seismic Renovation — New Facility on Track for 2027

Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria is pressing ahead with a landmark $300 million renovation project aimed at replacing the current aging facility with a new, seismically sound hospital slated to open in 2027 — a critical investment for one of Oregon’s most geologically vulnerable coastal communities. The Federal Emergency Management Agency had awarded a $14 million grant for the project’s resiliency components through its Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program, but that program was canceled in 2025, and the Oregon State Legislature allocated an additional $6 million to help offset the loss. Despite the federal funding setback, hospital leadership confirmed construction is continuing without significant changes while the team searches for cost savings. For coastal contractors experienced in large healthcare and seismic construction, this project represents one of the most significant active construction opportunities on the entire Oregon coast.
