“Building a Better 82nd”: Corridor Work Continues, Open House Set for Sept. 16

Construction along NE/SE 82nd Avenue continues this month as PBOT and TriMet crews build out median islands and traffic separators at several intersections, including SE Tibbetts, SE Lafayette, and SE Raymond. Lane closures at these sites will run around the clock until the new concrete cures — a reminder that “temporary” traffic control on public infrastructure work often runs longer than drivers expect, and that safety-driven closure windows aren’t optional even when they’re inconvenient.

The city anticipates activating new traffic signals at these locations by mid-September. For anyone curious about what’s coming next along the corridor — additional transit improvements, station upgrades, and safety features tied to TriMet’s Line 72 — an in-person open house is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. at CORE Bar and Food Carts on SE 82nd Avenue. Project staff will be on hand to answer site-specific questions and take feedback on updated plans.

For contractors and suppliers working near the corridor, the practical takeaway is straightforward: expect continued lane restrictions and plan deliveries accordingly through the signal activation window.
