Eugene Launches Major Summer Construction Push — Railroad Crossings, Pedestrian Safety, and Wastewater Rehabilitation All Underway

The City of Eugene has launched a significant summer 2026 construction season with multiple concurrent projects reshaping the city’s infrastructure — including reconstruction of ten railroad crossings throughout the city to reduce train horn use by eliminating 70 percent of horn requirements, an ODOT-funded pedestrian safety improvement program upgrading crossings at multiple intersections along Highway 99 starting in July, and the first phase of a multi-year “100 Year Old Pipe” wastewater rehabilitation program targeting the oldest pipes in Eugene’s collection system at locations scattered across the city. A Spring Creek Drive shared-use path project running from River Road to Awbrey Park School — funded by an Oregon Safe Routes to School grant — is also underway through the summer. For civil, underground utility, and transportation contractors in the Willamette Valley, Eugene’s active summer construction season represents a meaningful cluster of publicly funded opportunities, with several projects extending into late 2026 and 2027.
