Fatal Four Hazards Still Account for 65% of All Construction Deaths in 2026

Falls from heights, being struck by equipment, and electrocutions remain the top causes of construction worker deaths in 2026, collectively accounting for 65% of all construction fatalities nationwide — with construction representing 19% of all U.S. worker fatalities despite being only 6% of the total workforce. Small businesses with 1–10 workers account for 57% of fatal injuries with more than 70% of deadly falls occurring in these smaller work settings — a profile that matches the vast majority of residential construction firms operating throughout Oregon and Washington, making fall protection training and documentation a critical priority for every Pacific Northwest contractor.
