Hillsboro’s $43.1 Million Century Boulevard Extension Finally Breaking Ground — 27 Years in the Making

Construction on a planned extension of Century Boulevard that has sat on Hillsboro transportation maps for more than two decades is finally moving forward, with Washington County officials confirming work will begin in June on the Century Boulevard Extension Project — which planners describe as a new route between north and south Hillsboro intended to improve mobility, safety, and connections between homes and businesses. The project will create a three-lane extension of Century Boulevard between Main Street and Lois Street, including a new road segment between Main and Borwick streets, with the estimated cost coming in at $43.1 million funded through Washington County’s Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program. Plans call for a new bridge over Rock Creek, with construction expected to continue through spring 2028. For civil and roadway contractors in Washington County, the project represents a significant multi-year opportunity in one of the Portland metro’s most active growth corridors.
