New Earthquake-Ready Van Buren Bridge Nearing Completion in Corvallis — Hamilton Construction Wrapping Up

Corvallis is on the home stretch of replacing the aging Van Buren Bridge over the Willamette River on eastbound OR 34, with contractor Hamilton Construction expected to complete the project in 2026 after breaking ground in May 2023. The existing bridge was seismically vulnerable, narrow, and weight-restricted — a bottleneck for both travelers and freight — and is being replaced with a modern, earthquake-ready structure featuring two eastbound travel lanes, a bike lane, and a protected bicycle and pedestrian path. The project is part of Oregon’s ongoing effort to shore up vulnerable bridge infrastructure using HB 2017 transportation funding and federal dollars. Two lanes of traffic are currently open on the new bridge while final work continues, with occasional lane closures and delays expected.
