North Spokane Corridor’s Spokane River Crossing Continues Through the 2026 Season
Construction continues on the North Spokane Corridor’s Spokane River Crossing project, which will connect the corridor’s Spokane River-to-Columbia segment to the north with the Sprague-to-Spokane River Phase 1 segment to the south. The project, awarded to Max J. Kuney Co., began construction in spring 2023 and is scheduled to run through the 2026 construction season.
Alongside the mainline drivable section over the Spokane River, crews are also building the Children of the Sun Trail bridge, a parallel pedestrian-only span. The North Spokane Corridor project overall will eventually build a limited-access US-395 freeway from I-90 north to the Wandermere area; seven miles of the corridor are already complete, and the final 3.5 miles are funded through the Connecting Washington transportation package passed by the Legislature in 2015.
Why this matters for contractors: This river-crossing segment is one of the final links needed to complete the North Spokane Corridor. With Kuney as the lead contractor and construction continuing through the current season, subcontractors in bridge work and structural trades should stay in contact with WSDOT Eastern Region as the crossing nears completion and the corridor’s remaining phases move toward advertisement.
