Ocean Shores and Westport Launch Major Jetty and Coastal Erosion Construction — Army Corps Project Underway

A major coastal construction effort is now underway on Washington’s Grays Harbor coast, as the cities of Ocean Shores and Westport — working in collaboration with Grays Harbor County and the Army Corps of Engineers — tackle serious erosion threatening public infrastructure, homes, and marinas. Plans are moving forward to repair the north jetty, with construction anticipated to begin as early as March 2026, while Ocean Shores has applied for a grant through Rep. Emily Randall’s office to make the existing cobble berm more permanent. The actual placement of boulders and jetty construction is expected to continue through October 2027, with staging of materials and access routes already completed in late 2025 and early 2026. The erosion problem is severe — Oyhut Bay in Ocean Shores has averaged 60 feet of erosion per year from 2017 to 2023 — making this one of the most urgent coastal infrastructure projects in the Pacific Northwest.
