Oregon Industrial Construction Booming — $2.8 Billion in Active Projects Across the State
While residential construction permits have hit a 12-year low and downtown Vancouver’s private development pipeline has gone quiet, Oregon’s industrial construction sector is telling an entirely different story. Oregon currently has more than $2.8 billion in industrial projects under construction across the state spanning data centers, semiconductor manufacturing, distribution warehouses, solar farms, and engineered wood products facilities — making industrial one of the strongest and most active construction sectors in the Pacific Northwest right now.
The diversity of project types is striking. Microchip Technology is in the middle of an $800 million expansion at its Gresham semiconductor manufacturing site, with M.A. Mortenson Company demolishing aging plant areas and constructing new nitrogen and air-separation plants, an 11,000-gallon oxygen tank, a 9,000-square-foot liquid chemical storage building, and a 13,000-square-foot dry storage building — with the warehouse phase expected to complete this year and the manufacturing plant expansion finishing in late 2026. Google’s Alphabet continues construction on a 164,000-square-foot data center complex on a brownfield site in The Dalles. Roseburg Forest Products is expanding its engineered wood products plant in Riddle with two new lathe lines and a plywood line that will significantly increase production capacity. For Oregon and Washington commercial contractors with industrial expertise, the work is genuinely there — and the West Coast carries a 1.25 to 1.40 cost multiplier compared to national averages, meaning premium pricing for contractors who know how to deliver these complex projects on time and on budget.
