Overlapping Puget Sound Roadwork Complicates Logistics for WA Contractors

Washington contractors moving crews, equipment, or materials through the Puget Sound corridor are facing a stretch of overlapping road construction this month that’s worth planning around.

WSDOT closures and delays are hitting several key routes at once, including I-5, I-405, SR 520, and SR 202. Recreational river work is also affecting portions of the Snoqualmie and Raging rivers, where in-water construction to repair riverbanks may temporarily restrict public river access and boat launches.

Separately, the Revive I-5 Ship Canal Bridge Preservation project has reduced northbound I-5 in Seattle to two lanes through the Ship Canal Bridge for the remainder of 2026, and closed the Harvard Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-5 until mid-October.

Travelers — and contractors scheduling deliveries or crew commutes — should expect longer and less predictable trip times through the corridor for the next several weeks. For firms with active projects in the Seattle area, this is a good moment to build extra buffer into delivery schedules and consider off-peak routing where possible.
