Skanska Completes Oregon’s Most Challenging Healthcare Construction Project — OHSU Vista Pavilion Open on Marquam Hill

Skanska has completed construction of the Oregon Health & Science University Vista Pavilion — a 14-story, 530,000-square-foot hospital expansion on OHSU’s Marquam Hill campus — delivering one of the most technically demanding healthcare construction projects Oregon has ever seen. The project added significant new clinical and research capacity to OHSU’s flagship campus, which sits on a steep hillside above Portland with limited access, extreme grade changes, and the complexity of building adjacent to a fully operational hospital that could not be disrupted during construction. Skanska delivered the project safely, sustainably, and on schedule — a remarkable achievement given the site constraints, the scale of the structure, and the pandemic-era supply chain and labor challenges the team had to navigate during construction. For Portland-area healthcare and commercial contractors, the OHSU Vista Pavilion joins the Block 216 Ritz-Carlton and the PDX Next expansion as one of the most significant completed construction achievements in the region’s recent history.
