Sound Transit’s Pinehurst Station Opens September 30

Sound Transit’s Pinehurst light rail station, located at 13001 5th Avenue Northeast in Seattle, opens to riders September 30 as an infill station on the Link light rail system’s 1 Line, connecting Shoreline South/148th and Lynnwood City Center. The Seattle City Council had originally recommended the NE 130th Street station location in a 2013 resolution, and Sound Transit’s board approved a $240 million budget for the station in 2022.

Accelerated construction of the station was expected to cost about $144 million, and the project drew active support from advocacy groups in the surrounding neighborhoods, who pushed for its inclusion after it was initially left out of the Lynnwood Link project’s design.

Why this matters for contractors: With Pinehurst opening, attention on the Lynnwood Link corridor shifts to any remaining closeout and station-area improvement work. Firms with light rail station finish and systems experience should track Sound Transit’s punch-list and closeout procurement for this segment.
