SR 167 Expressway Nearing Opening — New Port of Tacoma Link on Track for Mid-to-Late 2026

After decades of planning and years of active construction, the second stage of Washington’s SR 167 Completion Project — a new 2-mile tolled expressway connecting Interstate 5 directly to the Port of Tacoma — is on track to open to traffic in mid-to-late 2026. The $2.83 billion Puget Sound Gateway Program is one of the largest infrastructure investments in Washington state history, and this stage alone includes 20 new bridges, new I-5 interchanges, and a major 150-acre wetland and creek restoration along Hylebos Creek. Meanwhile, the Kraemer-Scarsella Joint Venture has been selected for the $475 million final stage of the project — connecting the expressway from Fife all the way to Puyallup — with construction set to mobilize in mid-2026. NW contractors involved in highway, bridge, and civil work should watch this corridor closely as opportunities at all stages continue to emerge.
