Tumwata Village Breaks Ground on Willamette Falls Infrastructure

Oregon and tribal leaders gathered this month to celebrate the start of infrastructure construction at Tumwata Village, a development site adjacent to Willamette Falls that has been years in the planning.

Road construction through the site is expected to take 12 to 15 months, laying the groundwork for a planned mixed-use space that will eventually include retail, office, and event space. The project represents one of the more closely watched tribal-led development efforts in the region, tied to the historic significance of the Willamette Falls site.

For contractors, the road and utility work now underway is the first visible phase of what’s expected to be a multi-year build-out. Local firms with experience in tribal partnership projects, environmentally sensitive sites, or historic/cultural preservation requirements may find this a useful project to track as later phases go out to bid.
