UW Interdisciplinary Engineering Building Wins 2026 AGC Build Washington Award — Hensel Phelps Delivers Landmark Academic Facility

The University of Washington’s new Interdisciplinary Engineering Building design-build team — led by Hensel Phelps — has received the 2026 Baker Tilly/AGC Build Washington Award in the Public Building: $50 million to $100 million category, recognizing the project as one of Washington state’s most outstanding construction achievements of the year. The Interdisciplinary Engineering Building expands UW’s capacity for engineering education and research, providing state-of-the-art facilities for collaborative, cross-disciplinary work — a facility type that is increasingly in demand as technology companies like Amazon and Microsoft deepen their relationships with the university’s engineering programs. The AGC Build Washington Awards are among the most prestigious construction recognition programs in the state, evaluated on criteria including safety, innovation, and construction quality. For Washington commercial and academic facility contractors, the UW IEB is a benchmark project that demonstrates what design-build delivery can achieve on a complex urban university campus.
