WSDOT’s Biggest Summer Construction Season in Years — I-90 Snoqualmie Pass Phase 3 Underway as I-5, I-405, SR 99, and SR 522 All See Active Work
Washington’s 2026 summer construction season is one of the most active in WSDOT’s recent history, with major projects running simultaneously across I-5, I-405, SR 99, SR 522, and the I-90 Snoqualmie Pass East corridor — creating a web of closures, lane reductions, and traffic impacts across the entire Puget Sound region and beyond. Phase 3 of the I-90 Snoqualmie Pass East Project — improving the 15-mile corridor from Hyak to Easton with Phases 1 and 2 already complete — is now underway, while the Revive I-5 Ship Canal Bridge preservation project resumed long-term lane reductions on July 13 following the World Cup construction pause. WSDOT conducted a full weekend closure of northbound I-5 near the Ship Canal Bridge from July 8-12 to establish the work zone — with express lanes now running northbound-only 24 hours a day through the end of 2026. For NW contractors coordinating summer project schedules, deliveries, and subcontractor mobilizations across the Puget Sound region, WSDOT’s online travel alert system at wsdot.wa.gov is the essential daily reference for navigating the most complex construction traffic environment the region has seen in years.
